Apple will allow you to fix the iPhone yourself, but there are nuances
Apple has announced that it will sell original components for self-repairing gadgets. This is an extremely unexpected step for a company that has long been accused of bias against uncertified service centers. Will the ordinary owner of a broken iPhone be able to replace its display and what is wrong with Apple's self-repair program - in the material "Gazeta.Ru". bolts
Apple gave back
Apple will supply parts to customers, allowing them to
repair their devices themselves. This was reported on the endorsed website of
the company. This is a significant change in the policy of the tech giant,
because Cupertinians have long insisted that only certified service centers can
repair their gadgets.
Through the Self Service Repair program, customers will be
able to purchase kits with genuine Apple parts and instructions on how to fix
their gadgets themselves. Starting next year, the program will launch in the US
for iPhone models 12 and 13, and then roll out to select Macs and other
countries. The first available components will be the most commonly serviced
modules: iPhone displays, batteries, and cameras.
It is important to note that customers will not lose their
warranty by repairing the device themselves, as long as they do not damage it.
In 2019, Apple began selling similar kits and instructions
to independent repair shops. According to the company, 5,000 authorized and
2,800 independent service centers in the United States are currently receiving
original Apple parts.
Not so simple
Previously, the ordinary user and unofficial workshops did
not have access to the original components of Apple gadgets. Because of this,
they had to use non-original or used parts. Soon after Apple announced that
parts for the iPhone and other gadgets of the company would be available for
purchase by third parties, many social media users decided that they could now
save money on the services of service centers - after all, it would be possible
to order parts for yourself at home and replace them yourself, for example ,
battery.

However, the reality turned out to be more severe. Parts
from Apple will indeed be available for purchase to everyone. The problem is
that replacing them, opening and repairing gadgets is still a complex technical
process that requires certain skills and experience.
Kirill Meisler, the head of the iSupport service center,
agrees with this. In an interview with Gazeta.Ru, he said that an ordinary
user, for example, will not be able to replace the display on the iPhone 12 and
13 series, as this requires a certain amount of experience. He notes that
Apple, in its message, clarified that it was about repairs only by experienced
users, but many did not pay attention to this.
“Self Repair is intended for individual technicians with the
knowledge and experience of repairing electronic diplomacies.
For the vast majority of clients, visiting a proficient
repair service provider with certified technicians who use genuine Apple parts
is the safest and most reliable way to get a repair, ” says Apple's website.
Meisler also said that it is possible to buy original spare
parts for other brands of smartphones even now. But many sellers issue good
copies or analogs as original ones, which is why there is a need for a certain
standard and understanding that this is really a branded spare part.
“This requires branded packaging and the ability to verify
the serial number of a spare part for authenticity on the same manufacturer's
website. I would very much like this practice, since both services and end
consumers will benefit from this, because the quality of original spare parts
cannot be compared even with the best analogs, ”the expert concluded.
Eldar Murtazin , a leading analyst at Mobile Research Group,
said that this decision by Apple is connected with several precedents, when the
company was sued for the inability to repair the device with original parts by
unauthorized service centers.
